Brief on Adopt-A-Highway Program in Texas

  • An estimated 435 million pieces of visible litter accumulate on Texas roadways each year. And that doesn’t even account for microliters such as cigarette butts.
  • One in four Texans admits to littering in the past With a growing population, that can mean more trash tarnishing our beautiful Texas landscapes.
  • By picking up just 10 percent of litter on Texas highways, volunteers help save the state more than an estimated $3 million a year in litter pickup costs.
  • Each volunteer group gets their group name displayed on road signs for travelers to
  • It keeps Texas Clean roads, beautifies the state, and motivates others to do the same.
  • Beautification efforts help contribute to tourism to and within the state.

 

Dharmansh USA team approached the Dallas County Administration to participate in the program and adopted a two-mile stretch on state Highway 183 in Irving, Texas, in 2023.

 

Dharmansh Volunteers Collected Litter on March 30th, 2024

The volunteers of Dharmansh, enthusiastic high school students, got together already twice in the last six months and have cleaned up  and collected about 30 large bags full of litter from just those two miles of adopted portion of the highway.
